A Springfield man, Pedro Perez, helped two officers in Springfield, Massachusetts, on Tuesday when he intervened during an armed standoff after a robbery. Perez reportedly spotted an officer struggling to restrain an armed man after a robbery and moved to help restrain the suspect. When another officer arrived to assist, the suspect allegedly grabbed one officer’s service pistol and fired two shots. Officials credit Perez’ intervention with potentially saving both officers’ lives.
“Without the help of Mr. Perez there undoubtedly would have been a much different outcome to this incident. His actions in all likelihood saved the lives of two Springfield Police Officers. This dangerous suspect had zero regard for anyone’s livelihood and my officers involved put their lives on the line to prevent this individual from causing any additional harm,” said Springfield Police Superintendent Cheryl Clapprood.
