Suspect Arrested For Explosives Planted in Brazilian Capital Ahead of Presidential Inauguration
The arrest comes after a contentious presidential election where the incumbent President Jair Bolsonaro has yet to formally concede the race.
George Washington de Oliveira Sousa, a 54-year-old gas station manager, was arrested by police on suspicion of planting and possessing explosive devices one week before Brazil’s President-elect Lula da Silva’s inauguration, Marcia Reverdosa and Maija Ehlinger report for CNN.
The arrest comes after a contentious race that left Brazil with a new president while incumbent President Jair Bolsonaro, who lost but has not formally conceded the race, has rallied his supporters against former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
