Tampa Officer Fired Following Video Of Suspect Dragged Across Floor

The officer in Tampa, Florida who dragged a handcuffed woman into jail on November 17 has been fired, the Tampa Police Department announced on Tuesday. Former officer Gregory Damon, who has served with the Tampa Police Department since 2016, was found to have violated department policy revised in 2013 codifying that officers aren’t permitted to drag uncooperative suspects on the ground, the Associated Press reports.

Body worn camera footage released by the department shows a woman not complying with Damon’s command to leave her vehicle, telling him she wants him to ‘drag’ her. After multiple attempts to get the woman to leave the vehicle, Damon is seen pulling her by the arms and dragging her bodily across the concrete floor of the jail garage as he tells her to stand up.
