Two Charged Following Texas Deaths of 51 Migrants
The bodies of the migrants, including adults and children, were found in an enclosed semi-truck in San Antonio, Tx.
Two men have been charged in relation to the tragic deaths of 51 migrant adults and children found in a sweltering enclosed semi-truck in San Antonio, Tx., reports Reuters. Surviving patients were hot to the touch and suffering from heat stroke and exhaustion with no working A/C or water, and investigators said that the victims were too weakened to get themselves out. Juan Claudio D’Luna-Mendez and Juan Francisco D’Luna-Bilbao, found at the home listed as the truck’s registered address in Texas, have been charged with “possession of a weapon by an alien illegally in the United States.”
“In the past, smuggling organizations were mom and pop. Now they are organized and tied in with the cartels. So you have a criminal organization who has no regard for the safety of the migrants. They are treated like commodities rather than people,” special agent Craig Larrabee with San Antonio Homeland Security Investigations told CNN.
