Watchdog Investigates LAPD Role in Moonves Coverup
The move follows allegations that an LAPD Chief intentionally ran interference and derailed an investigation into a sexual assault on Les Moonves’ behalf that were released as part of the New York attorney general’s settlement with Moonves last week.
The LAPD Inspector General, an independent watchdog, will oversee an investigation in the role at least one LAPD official played in the investigation and potential cover up of criminal allegations against former CBS CEO Leslie Moonves, Libor Jany reports for the Los Angeles Times. Inspector General Mark Smith was directed to monitor and guide the LAPD investigation at a meeting of the Los Angeles civilian Police Commission on Tuesday.
The move follows allegations that an LAPD Chief intentionally ran interference and derailed an investigation into a sexual assault on Les Moonves’ behalf that were released as part of the New York attorney general’s settlement with Moonves last week. The New York filing did not name the LAPD captain but he was later identified by the department as former commander Cory Palka, who served as captain of the LAPD Hollywood division between 2017 and 2018.
